How SarafaRate sources and checks its rates
Where the rate comes from
The gold and silver rate in Pakistan is announced by the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems & Jewellers Association, usually once a day and sometimes more often. The association does not publish an official feed, so the rate reaches the public through newspapers and TV channels.
How we confirm it
- Every hour from 11 am to 11 pm PKT, our system reads the daily rate report from Business Recorder and the latest gold-rate headlines from several Pakistani outlets.
- A new rate is published only when two independent checks agree: two outlets reporting the same figure, or one report that matches the international gold price and dollar rate within our normal range.
- A change of more than 8% in one day is never published automatically. It is checked by hand first.
- If the sources disagree, the site keeps showing the last confirmed rate with its date and time, so you always know how fresh it is.
How other figures are calculated
- One tola = 11.664 grams; 1 tola = 12 masha; 1 masha = 8 ratti; 1 troy ounce = 31.1035 grams.
- 22K = 24K rate × 22/24 (91.7%), 21K = × 21/24 (87.5%), 20K = × 20/24 (83.3%), 18K = × 18/24 (75%).
- Per-gram and other weights are the tola rate divided by 11.664 and multiplied by the weight. Figures are rounded to the nearest rupee.
- Live international prices come from gold-api.com and the dollar rate from open.er-api.com. These are shown separately from the official sarafa rate.
Why rates differ between websites and shops
You may see slightly different numbers elsewhere. Common reasons: some sites show the Karachi bullion market’s intraday trading price instead of the association’s announced rate; some round the 22K and 21K rates differently; some update at different times of day; and some markets quote prices for a different tola size. Jewellers also add making charges and their own margin. The announced association rate is the common reference, and it is what this site shows.
