How the gold rate in Pakistan is set
The All Pakistan Sarafa Gems & Jewellers Association announces one bullion rate for the whole country every day. It is based on the international gold price and the US dollar to rupee exchange rate. Jewellers in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and every other city use this same rate, which is why the price per tola is the same across Pakistan.
One tola equals 11.664 grams. The 24K rate is for pure gold. Jewellery is usually 22K or 21K, so its value is lower: 22K is 91.7% pure and 21K is 87.5% pure. Today 22K gold works out to Rs 399,333 per tola and 21K to Rs 381,182 per tola.
