What is 18K gold?
18K gold is 75% pure gold. It is harder than 21K and 22K, which makes it the usual choice for diamond and stone jewellery, white gold and modern lightweight designs. It contains 18 out of 24 parts, or 75% gold.
Branded jewellery, engagement rings and pieces set with stones are often made in 18K so the stones stay secure. It is also used for watches.
How the 18K rate is calculated
The sarafa association announces the 24K rate each day. The 18K rate is the 24K rate multiplied by 18/24 (75%). Today 24K gold is Rs 435,636 per tola, so 18K gold works out to Rs 326,727 per tola. One tola is 11.664 grams.
The hallmark for 18K is 750. Because it has less gold, its resale value is lower than 21K or 22K jewellery of the same weight.
